Edition 18: Buni on Consolidation Mission in Yobe

For a long time to come, the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria will occupy the front burner of discourse in the country and beyond. Many have questioned the credibility of the process, especially the Presidential.

The rave of the election, the dark horse who stunned many with his dazzling performance, Peter Obi of the Labour Party who swept virtually all the states in the South-East, South-South, Middle Belt and Lagos State has headed to court to contest the outcome of the polls. Same with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who is not new to presidential contest in Nigeria. He and Mr. Obi, former governor of Anambra State are disputing the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State as the President-Elect.

At the state level, some governors and legislators lost in their bid for re-election or to make their favourites to succeed them. They failed in Zamfara, Kano, Plateau, Sokoto, Abia, Benue, among others. The case of the strong man in Yobe State is different. Governor Mai Mala Buni, not only won the confidence of his people, but he did so in a spectacular manner. It could therefore be understood, that like the Iroko in the forest, he adorns our cover in this edition.
