Parenting Not For Babies
Parenting is not just exhausting physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well.
When you take on the job of being a parent, the world’s most important job, there is neither formal orientation nor
special school where the skill of proper parenting is thought, but, just on-the-job training and trial by fire.
Parenting can also be one of the most satisfying and rewarding job, if we learn to look beyond the immediate
frustrations.
For proper parenting to take place, some key factors are brought into consideration: first and foremost, your
psychological and emotional state/wellbeing is very vital, mental balance and emotional maturity. It equally involves
raising and catering for the needs of your children, creating a place where family members feel good about where they
live, encouraging your children, your spouse and family members to be their personal best and share their skills.
Another important factor is the financial care involved.
Are you a parent or a potential one, then the factors above are needful. Parenting is a lifelong commitment and a
serious business too, for serious minded couples.
Let’s take a moment to consider all that we do for our children and family every day: feed them, clothe them, minister
to their emotional needs, play with them, guide them, discipline them, etc.
It is important to note that for parents to carry out this wonderful mandate, they need to live and stay healthy. Yes;
health is wealth and of course healthy parents raise healthy children and family. In this journey of parenting, children
are barometers of their parent’s state of wellbeing. Parents’ state of health both physically or mentally plays a
pivotal role and is a determinant factor to the stability of the home front.
How then can we achieve this? Accept yourself as you are. Sometimes we are our worst critic. We compare ourselves to
others and quick to believe the worst about ourselves. The truth is, no one is perfect, no one has it all and even
though the grass may seem greener on the other side, there are probably thorns underneath those verdant leaves.
In addition to the above, maintain your spiritual connection. Connection to God gives meaning and purpose to human life,
after all, we are caretakers tending God’s garden.
